Payments and Settlements Systems

What actions has CBSL taken to facilitate uninterrupted payments during this time of crisis?

CBSL is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted services of essential payment, clearing and settlement systems of the country which facilitate ATM operations, payments through current and savings accounts (e.g., SLIPS, CEFTS, and QR code based payments), cheque payments, internet banking and mobile phone based banking. Final settlement of the above payments via the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) System is also the responsibility of the CBSL.

Comprehensive Business Continuity Plans (BCP) have been put in place to guarantee uninterrupted services from the payment systems that are operated by CBSL and LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd. Further, CBSL monitors and evaluates BCP arrangements of RTGS participants and LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd. in order to reduce the systemic risk posed by these parties to the payments and settlements systems of the country.

CBSL is also dedicated to monitoring and resolving issues that may arise in the payment systems, as and when they occur. These actions are all taken in an effort to ensure ease of access to payment modes and to guarantee that customers are provided with regular, uninterrupted payment services.
