The Sri Lanka Purchasing Managers’ Index for Construction (PMI – Construction), as reflected by the Total Activity Index, increased to 61.4 in July 2026, indicating continued expansion in construction activities. Many survey respondents highlighted the sustained flow of construction work despite input constraints, particularly the short supply of bitumen.
The steady inflow of new projects contributed to the further expansion of the New Orders Index. Meanwhile, the Employment Index strengthened in July, although many firms continued to report skilled labour shortages. The Quantity of Purchases Index increased further in July, supported by the increased availability of construction work. Nevertheless, survey participants continued to report supply shortages and elevated material prices. Meanwhile, the Suppliers' Delivery Time Index remained high in July as well.
Expectations for construction activities over the next three months remained positive, supported by optimism about upcoming project awards, although concerns persisted over maintaining a steady flow of inputs.
