Winning Industries
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka conducted a series of studies on several industries, which could be identified as industries with ‘winning potential,’ i.e., those that are capable of leapfrogging the country’s export capacity and thereby, its economic growth. These studies focus on assessing the current performance of the industry based on inputs of key industry players, and identifying the challenges faced by the industry and the way forward.
These studies, which are essentially work in progress, will continue to be refined from time to time based on new developments. The series is expected to be expanded to encompass emerging industries. As there may be diverse views and perspectives on the performance of industries and their potential, the views expressed in these studies are for informational purposes only and may not necessarily reflect the stance of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. However, this series intends to forge analyses and discussions among policymakers, financial institutions, academia and the general public about the growth potential of such domestic industries.
Industries that have been covered in this series are:
1. Batiks and Handloom
2. Boat and Ship Building
3. Ceramics
4. Cosmetics
5. Electronics and Electrical Components
6. Food and Beverages Processing
7. Gem and Jewellery
8. Motor Vehicle Assembly
9. Pharmaceuticals Manufacture
10. Rubber and Rubber Products
11. Toys
12. Wellness and Health
